Witchsorrow – God Curse Us(2012)

UK’s WITCHSORROW after their successful debut back in 2010 return with an album that should put them right on the top of most Doom Metal lists for this year.

If their debut sounded heavier than a mammoth then I simply have no words to describe how heavy “God Curse Us” is.

Even from the first notes of “Aurora Atra” (the album opener) you can sense that this is going to be one loud mother fucker. Unlike most bands that play heavy, their sound is crystal clear but their approach doesn’t sound modern not for a second.

This is text book, sloooow Doom much in the vein of legendary REVEREND BIZARRE, CATHEDRAL (mostly due to the voice) and the of course band’s debut. The main difference between “God Curse Us” and WITCHSORROW’s S/T is its heaviness. In fact at times the bass overshadows the already heavy guitars, and allow me to say that this is probably the sexiest thing I’ve heard for some time.

In the songwriting department the band displays some skills; then again it’s not something you haven’t heard before. If you are uncomfortable when bands are recycling older styles then you’ll probably hate “God Curse Us”.

WITCHSORROW despite their close resemblance with Doom legends, manage to repeat the success of their first album and at the same time satisfy the needs of die-hard Doom fans. They make it 2 out of 2 and this is a true accomplishment for this young band. Great things are about to come (I hope)! In the mean time just enjoy this dark mammoth.
