It’s been so long since I really enjoyed a Goth/Doom release. It’s easy to play fast if you wanna play Thrash and it’s easy to play brutal if wanna play Death. But make no mistake it’s impossible to play Doom/Death and be good at it if there is no true darkness in you soul. WEDDING IN HADES are doing a damn good job revving the lost feeling that made this genre so popular during the 90’s. “Misbehaviour” their second full-length may actually prove a true gem for the genre.
Lead guitars pay tribute to early PARADISE LOST, while at the same time there are some clear MY DYING BRIDE influences especially in the more melancholic parts of the album. The more extreme parts of the album (which still sound pretty melancholic) may remind of early THEATER OF TRAGEDY (“Velvet Darkness They Fear” era).
Everything in this release screams classic Doom/Death or to use a different term 90’s Goth/Doom. Yet, the quality of the material is among the best of the entire genre. I am confident that if this album was released back in the 90’s it would have made WEDDING IN HADES huge. Today, I am not so sure about that.
I could analyze each song independently but the truth is that “Misbehaviour” is a flawless album in each entirety. The true accomplishment for the band is that their music refers not only to the Goth fans but also to the traditional Doom fans, and we all know how strict this crowd is about their music. Actually, you don’t even have to be “in the mood for something catatonic” to dig “Misbehaviour”. Highly recommended for everyone who likes heavy, dark, pessimistic music.
