Moonless – Calling All Demons(2012)

MOONLESS is a new band from Denmark that literally managed to blow my mind… along with my speakers. This four-piece combines the aesthetics of the emerging retro-rock scene along with solid high volume Stoner rock and Doom.

What differentiates this band from the rest of the pile is the epic character of almost every song in this album. The Epic constituent was a basic aspect of almost every early Doom act but it seems that the contemporary revival wave lacks this element. Well, MOONLESS are not like this. With lyrics like “Drink the blood as fast as you can…” you have no choice but to scream: what a bad-ass record!!!

The riffing of the album is huuuge, placing at least half of the songs among the top of this year. We dealing with some really catchy, bad-ass riffs here. If you are an Iommi-worshiper (or just love early Doom riffs) you simply can’t go wrong with this baby!

Vocals sound raw but melodic at the same time and they work perfectly especially in the more dark and slow compositions like “Horn of the Ram”.
For me this debut marks the first step of what I hope to be a great band. Slow, dark, simple, straightforward, but highly inspired and seriously addictive! This one goes straight to the top.
