It seems that this four piece from Venice doesn’t care much about the romantic atmosphere of which their birthplace is famous for.
Their Sludge sound is full of mud, dirt and filth and I would say that these three words sum it up for the entire EP. BLOOD RED WATER play a (not so original) mix of the slower kind of Sludge with some early Punk elements here and there to complete the recipe.
Vocals often change between clear and brutal style, while guitar sounds heavy as f**k and drums n bass do the best they can for the whole result to sound even heavier and dirtier.
“Tales of Addiction and Despair” contains some seriously catchy songs and I think I dig everything in the album but the first song. Believe me, the album opener is not the best sample of how instantly catchy this EP is. If you are like me, I suggest to take a listen to the whole thing before you make up your mind.
If the band wanted to make an impression they simply did it. This is the best way to say: “Check us out…we are going to stick around for a while mother f****rs. Thanks for listening. Here is a punch on your gut”. Recommended for everyone but particularly for fans of EYEHATEGOD, SOURVEIN and BUZZOV*EN.
