A small live is all we need to get things going! So this one is a pure all-Greek-bands and a good opportunity to get in touch with the Greek stoner scene. First on the stage: Puta Volcano. I never seen them before so I was kinda curious. Female vocals, good stoner rock in the style of Queens of the Stone Age (they actually did a good cover for the Song for the Dead in the end). They seemed tight as a band and they surely have some good songs to display (listen to Silver Plate). Good guitar and bass but the vocals need to be controlled a little better on live. It was nice surprise and I am sure they’ll look better next time. The setlist was:
-
Cocksong
Zombie

Silver Plate
34
Rockabilly
Limp
Dead by Dawn
Song of the Dead
Next up Potergeist. Second time I see these guys (first was when they opened for Monster Magnet) and I must admit they were 100% improved. Much tighter, less stressed, they had no problem winning the crowd. If you’ve never heard them before, the vocals is the closest thing you’ll find to Phil Anselmo’s voice while their sound reminds Down but with more blues influences. This similarity can be both good and bad. In my opinion this worked bad in their first album “Southwards” (although the album itself was descent) giving them the “ripoff” label. In this live they mostly focused on their new material, from the upcoming album Muddy Mermaids. The songs sounded really nice and I must admit I am looking forward for this release! Kings Army is a good example! At some point Alex spotted the singer of Planet of Zeus in the crowd and he invited for guest vocals in the Voodoo Mama. Nice one! Its a long and hard road but in my opinion Planet of Zeus and Potergeist are the only bands right now that have the potential to have some recognition on international level. The setlist was:
-
Beggar
Next Dude
Kings Army
Forgiven
Rbl
Rivers
Voodo Mama
Motor
The Calling
Lucky Funeral got on the stage. That’s the 3rd time I see them. Well things were pretty straightforward. The band sounded exactly the same as before, no improvement at all or at least any difference on any level. They play a strange flavor of Sludge/Stoner with many traditional heavy metal elements. I am not really a fan of their sound, and on all of their lives they tend to loose their edge somewhere in the middle of the show. The guitarist is prone to errors and sometimes the outcome sounds more like noise. As I heard they were recording the event. They also did several covers of Black Sabbath and Soundgarden, none of which managed to impress me really. The setlist was:
-
Am I Sick to Die?
Your Own Private Terror
Drunk Crocodile
Social Death
Ancient Tragedy
Children of the Grave
Electric Funeral
Symptom of the Universe
Start you Revolution
Cobra
Come Join Us
Rusty Cage
